Teaching Practicum

students can do an intensive four-week internship at a Swiss or an international school in Canton Zug, while also attending courses at PH Zug.

Students can spend an exchange semester at PH Zug or do an intensive four-week internship at a Swiss or an international school in Canton Zug, while also attending courses at PH Zug. Students from our partner universities in Macedonia, France, Australia and the US have been using this offer for years, and you can read about their experiences on the website.

The prerequisites for doing an internship vary slightly, depending on the requirements of the partner institute. In general, students spend 3-4 days a week at the school and 1-2 days at PH Zug. They can observe lessons, assist study groups and teach certain blocks of a course, with the support of a teacher there.

Language courses can also be provided on request. Furthermore, student buddies are there to assist visiting students and will take them on excursions in the region. Although PH Zug arranges for accommodations with a guest family, visiting students must generally cover the cost themselves.

«The experience that PH Zug together with Deakin University has given me was a once in a lifetime learning opportunity. The four week teaching practice programme provided a unique and rich learning experience that I will no doubt benefit from both personally and professionally. I especially enjoyed the incorporation of attending PH Zug for one day of the week amongst practicum, this provided special insight into what life may look like for pre-service teachers here in Switzerland.»

Rhiannon Harris, Deakin University, November 2015

«Coming to Switzerland has been 100% worthwhile. It has opened up my eyes to the world around me and allowed me to experience a whole new perspective on education, teaching, learning and life. It has allowed me the opportunity to not only immerse myself into the Swiss style of life, encompassing the culture, cheese and amazing scenery but also experience, teach and learn in a diverse and new environment. It has been inspiring, motivating and engaging.»

Laura Grant, Deakin University, November 2014
