The study specialisation courses at the University of Teacher Education Lucerne (PH Luzern) provide the students with an in-depth study in a specific area, combining work on additional competences which might be useful both at school and outside. These additional competences allow the students to complete their studies with an individual profile.
IZB provides the specialisation study «Educational Development Cooperation» at the University of Teacher Education Lucerne.

The aim is to make use of experiences gained in an educational project in a transition or developing country (or alternatively in the context of the migration society Switzerland) for the Swiss school context with a continuously growing cultural diversity.

IZB has designed the specialisation study «Educational Development Cooperation» and runs all five modules, with the involvement of guest speakers from the field. IZB accompanies the students before, during and after their project assignment.

In Module 1, the students get to know diverse conceptions of development and learn about systems of education in different parts of the world.

In Module 2, the students learn about institutions and organisations in the field of development cooperation and deal with basic principles of international collaboration in education.

In Module 3, the students learn about the basics of intercultural learning and prepare their project assignment.

In Module 4, the students conduct a minimum five-week project assignment on an educational project in a developing or transition country. This assignment provides in-depth experience in a generally unknown cultural and institutional context.

In Module 5, the students are supported to reflect on what they have experienced and learned, focusing particularly on their future work at school. Using the approach of global learning, the students get to know a didactical concept for transferring experiences to their teaching situation.
