Following the signing of the partnership contract with the Slovakian town of Banska Stiavnica, the Council aimed to enter into a similar partnership with a French-speaking municipality in Switzerland. With this aim, a working party was set up in 2008 and they chose Marly, in the canton of Freiburg.  Mutual official visits and further contact were positive and particularly activities involving the schools at secondary level were instigated.

As both municipalities received positive feedback on their plans, it was decided to make the partnership official and the contract between the two municipalities was signed on 3 November 2012 in Hünenberg.
