Pasture

The pasture is one of the most important basic feed sources for ruminants. A large part of the grass is eaten fresh from the pasture. Other areas are dried or ensiled (preserved by fermentation). So the animals have food for the winter.

Important in practice
To ensure the best quality of the animals, many different factors have to be considered. Some can be influenced, some not. You can not influence the location, the climate and the soil structure. The cleanliness is influenceable, therefore it is important that the food is harvested as carefully as possible. Furthermore, types of grass can be influenced by different plants. For example, clover has the much higher protein content than grass.

Do you know which plant a cow prefers to eat and which are encouraged and which are not?

The first and third plants are good for the animals.
The second and fourth plants are not recommended

The plants are called: 
English Raygrass / Alpine thistle / white clover / sharp buttercup
