Organic and ÖLN production

Organic and ÖLN production

There are around 51,500 farms in Switzerland. More than 90% of the farms meet the ecological performance certificate (ÖLN) and about 13% of the farms produce according to Bio Suisse (organic) guidelines.

ÖLN (ecological perfomance certificate)
The Schluechthof farm is managed according to ÖLN guidelines, which allows the students to perform more varied experiments and practice comparisons. ÖLN is one of the basic requirements for a farm to receive direct payments from the government.

Bio (organic)
Bio stands for comprehensive sustainable production and careful processing. Both in agriculture and in processing, higher requirements apply. In Switzerland, in contrast to other countries, only full-scale organic production is possible. So organic is not the same as organic.
